DO'S AND DON'TS OF MEDICAL SCHOOL

Do’s and don’ts of medical school in India

1.    Get a head start on studying if you want to actually understand the concepts. It’s not difficult to grasp the concepts but it’s the vast amount of information that is hard to retain.
If you want to a detailed list of how to study specific subject or go in the right direction. Let me know!
2.    Be social! Seniors help out a lot if you want a quick list of ultra important questions or want to have a good time in a new city!  Either ways they are the go to people who have been through the same experience and will love to help you out!

3.    Don’t become a book worm! As far as I know even the topper of my class wasn’t studying 24*7. Yes! Some students will intimidate you by carrying a book along where ever they go but that doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s helping them an awful lot. I believe it just adds to the stress.

4.    Vivas are scary. Ask for help from seniors on what they ask. Teachers love to repeat the questions from the topics they taught. Some of the teachers do have a list question which is repeated year after year! Don’t worry everyone gets through them. If you are having a bad day, trust me it will pass.

5.    Start falling in love with medicine. It sounds like a cliché that if one wants to become a great doctor, it’s definitely not all about the money. I know students who weren’t on top of things during the first two years but as soon as they enter the hospital they really fall in love with medicine! As in they love seeing patients and expanding their knowledge. It does help in the long run!

6.    Understand it’s okay to not know everything! Mbbs, whether we like to admit it or not is just a brief introduction to rather in depth subjects. So there is no way of knowing everything unless you are rainman! Teachers might ask you questions which are beyond your scope. That’s okay. Don’t stress and let it go!

7.    Don’t forget to have fun! For most of us when we are done with mbbs what matters most is how to get into pg. We rarely tend to look back on our scores and failures but start to focus on getting a pg seat. In the mist of everything, don’t forget to have fun because these are after all the golden years of life!

8.    Don’t indulge in drinking, smoking or drugs period. If you are trying to experience stuff then at least know that you the self control to bounce back when you need to.
